Role: Training and Competence Lead

Location: Bristol

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

Background: Our client are looking to recruit a Training and Competence Lead to join their HR Team in Bristol / South West. This role plays a key part in the HR Department of a engineering company supporting the Mechanical and Electrical development on a Nuclear Engineering project in the South West of England. This is an exciting role responsible for shaping the learning and competence development interventions that will support the project in driving high standards in productivity, safety and quality along with developing people across all levels to enable them to be the best they can be.

Role and Responsibilities:

Design and deliver a range of learning interventions to ensure those joining the project have the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver the project to the highest standards.
Support the design and implementation of onboarding activities ensuring the needs of the client, regulator and partners are met.
Design and implement technical competence frameworks in cooperation with external awarding bodies and industry training boards to effectively demonstrate compliance and create development pathways for apprentices, semiskilled and skilled trade / disciplined employees.
Lead on training and competence compliance initiatives.
Design, development and implementation of Supervisory and Safety training and development interventions.
Design, development and implementation of Induction and onboarding initiatives.
Design of pre-employment skills testing interventions to provide routes of entry to the project.
Build external delivery network to support the mobilisation of the workforce.
Develop internal training capacity to support the mobilisation of the workforce.
Design, development and implementation of post mobilisation interventions to provide continuing development opportunities for all staff.
Determine volume and ensure local training capacity is capable and ready to support mobilisation.
Work in partnership with the central training administrative team to ensure tracking, KPI’s, reporting, including procedures / process compliance and maximising ECITB & CITB grant recovery.
Review and improve course materials utilised by central and site trainers to ensure these are highly engaging for participants and deliver on learning outcomes.
Lead training initiatives to support apprenticeship, semi-skilled, skilled, supervisory and management competence development pathways.
Evaluation and continuous improvement of training programmes.

Experience and Qualifications:

Engineering / Construction Industry experience (Preferably a trade background in Scaffolding, Thermal Insulation and / or in an Engineering Construction Discipline)
Previous experience in the design and delivery of training and development initiatives for site-based workers and supervision
Experience with apprenticeship programmes, site-based worker, supervision and site management development paths
Experience with train the trainer programmes and developing site trainer capability
Experience with competence assessment and assurance
Strong ability to work collaboratively in a matrix structure to manage challenging situations with multiple stakeholders
Excellent presentation and training delivery capability at all levels within the organisation
Understanding how to maximise industry training board and apprenticeship grant recovery
Demonstrable personal commitment to safety and preferably have experience of CCNSG Safety Passport / LATS / IOSH / NEBOSH
Understanding of Behavioural Safety / Safety Culture Change and Human Factors initiatives
Preferably a formal training, teaching and \ or assessment qualification
