Hain Daniels in Fakenham are currently recruiting for a Technical Supervisor. Fakenham is our dedicated Meat Free facility, producing vegetarian products under the Linda McCartney Foods brand and retail own label. This is a site that has made a large investment into machinery, products and employees and has seen a 30% growth year on year, with predicted consistent growth in the future. The Site Operational Team is transitioning to a continental shift pattern over the next 2 months, so you must be able to work 12 hour shifts, days and nights, covering the full week.
To lead, develop, and manage the on-shift, primary technical provision to the manufacturing unit. To contribute to ensuring that the unit meets legislative, accreditation and company requirements. To act as the first point of factory Technical contact for Operations, Engineering, and other departments and to provide a dynamic and proactive factory Technical presence.
Provide advice to Operations and Engineering team on technical (legal, quality, safety, integrity) matters.
Manage and develop QA team members including: time and attendance, preparation of recruitment, appraisals, investigations and disciplinary management as required.
Ensure all members of the Technical Department are suitably trained to carry out their role.
Build and maintain knowledge of legislative, customer, accreditation and internal business requirements.
Work with the site team during investigations, collecting sampling, auditing process, recording data as appropriate.
Authorise risk assessed concessions consistent with maintaining food safety, quality and legality when the need to deviate from procedure arises.
Be alert to – and appropriately escalate – developing trends in areas of responsibility / expertise.
Adopt an open / alert manner (as an alternative to being entirely task focussed) and issue non-conformances / quarantine notices as appropriate outside of routine task list.
Play a part in developing the site Food Safety Culture.
Manage the hygiene & housekeeping and GMP auditing schedule, supervising those carrying out the audits. Review results and raise concerns and the necessary corrective actions.
Collect KPI data with a view to developing statistical measurement of business performance.
Carry out project work and report work as required by Quality or Technical Manager. Carry out work according to project brief. Report findings and conclusions to QA and other relevant departments.
Personal completion of internal audits as assigned through the schedule – may require occasional weekend or overnight working the cover specific audits.
What you will need for the role / what it will take
Ideally HND / Degree level in Food Science or related subject.
Chilled Food experience.
Relevant experience in a supervisory role.
