The Royal High School, Bath (RHS) is a leading Girls’ Independent School based just outside the city centre. The Royal High School is set across two sites with the Nursery and Prep School based at the historic Cranwell House and the Senior School off the city’s picturesque Lansdown Road. Set in 11 acres of stunning grounds, the sites offer a mixture of heritage buildings and purpose-built teaching spaces; creating a rich and vibrant learning environment. As a Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) School, the Royal High School is part of a group of 23 leading girls’ schools and 2 academies; educating around 20,000 girls in the UK. The school is, however, unique within the group as it is the only establishment to offer boarding.
The Royal High School is seeking to appoint a Facilities Manager who will report directly to the Director of Finance and Operations. As a key leadership figure, you will lead the Estates and Facilities functions across both of the school sites. The post holder will oversee an in-house delivery team of approximately twenty-two individuals and will be fully responsible for the management of maintenance, repairs and the continuous improvement of the School’s buildings, grounds, sports pitches, gardens, site security, fire safety practices and cleaning functions. In addition you will have the ability to design and deliver minor work projects.
Supported by the central GDST Estates Department, the school has ambitious plans for the future with a number of exciting projects underway including a new music school to further develop and improve the estate.
The successful candidate will possess a proven track record of leading operational facilities services across a comparable portfolio; ideally with knowledge of heritage buildings. They will have extensive experience of the full range of hard and soft facilities services including the successful management of both in-house teams and external contractors. Ideally with a qualification in a relevant built environment discipline. As part of a small management team, it is imperative that the successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills with demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement. The role will only suit individuals with a high level of credibility and an in-built desire to drive standards through innovation and change management. They will also need to be self-reliant and confident administratively.
